"SPIRIT DAY" or Town-wide Garage Sale Day, began in 1983 as an event to give spirit to the Fall Festival held in September. It was such a huge success, that it can now boast as the biggest event in the county. Approximately 100 yard sales attract so many people that the streets are almost impassable. Bargain hunters come from everywhere, including out of state. Food is served at the local Fire Station and at several satellite stations on the sale route. Maps are handed out giving details of sale locations and items for sale. A friendly atmosphere by the local citizens makes for a "fun day for all." This event is held on the second Saturday of July.
